Martin Desjardins' sculpture, The Four Captives, consists of four oversized gilt-bronze figures representing the four nations defeated in the Treaties of Nijmegen. Each figure represents their reactions to captivity and defeat. I tried to capture "Spain" who represents hope, my favorite of the nation's reactions.

Wisdom

The overwhelming amount of lines depicting the subject's face signifies his depth of wisdom that derives from the fulfilling life he has lived.

Work Load

The subject's "Work Load" is so heavy that she is not seeing straight. She is glancing over her shoulder towards the offset pencil outline of her arm, which represents the double vision she is experiencing.

Sketch - Skull on Road

This is a drawing from my sketchbook. I was working on creating clouds in an interesting way. I wanted to juxtapose the softness of the clouds with the hardness of a human skull using pen on paper, instead of painting it or using an erasable medium.

Can't Keep My Eyes Open

This drawing was done late at night when I was so tired that I physically could not "Keep my Eyes Open". I was talking to my friend on the phone while I drew, and I was committed to finishing the piece that night, so I could show them the finished drawing in class the next day. Despite how tired I was, I really liked the way it turned out, and it is one of my favorite artworks I have created.
